The Organisation
Gong-Dal Aboriginal Corporation (GDAC) is a representative body for people on homelands on Western Miyarrka Country, located near Gapuwiyak in NE Arnhem Land. The GDAC vision is: Yolŋu people living culturally strong, healthy, self-determined and economically independent lives in our Miyarrka Homelands and Gapuwiyak.
GDAC established Mutjung Rangers in 2023 so TO’s in the Western Miyarrka area can manage their own land and sea country using a ‘both-ways, ground-up’ approach combining cultural knowledge and traditional land and sea management practices with scientific environmental expertise. Mutjung Rangers and the Indigenous Protected Area (IPA) and Ranger Development Coordinators are guided by the Western Miyarrkapuy Waṯaŋu Mala (WMWM) – the Yolŋu landowners and managers who are the cultural authority. GDAC and the WMWM have a Healthy Country Plan (HCP) and are developing a Monitoring, Evaluation Reporting and Implementation (MERI) framework for the Western Miyarrka area and Mutjung Rangers. In 2024 were funded to develop a new Western Miyarrka IPA and in 2025 we received Indigenous Ranger Program (IRP) funding for a Women’s Ranger Development Coordinator and our men and women rangers.
The Opportunity
The Women’s Ranger Development Coordinator is a new and crucial role in advancing GDAC’s Strategic Plan, to maximise the meaningful and confident participation of women rangers and senior women WMWM in land and sea management on their country. The position involves working closely with and assisting the IPA & Ranger Development Coordinator to implement a participatory strategic planning processes with a focus on a high-quality operational environment and the inclusion and participation of women in the development of a strong, professional, confident, skilled and highly effective Mutjuŋ Ranger team. This involves translating the Western Miyarrka HCP into action, supporting community engagement and the training, mentoring and networking of Yolŋu women rangers.

About You
You’ll bring
- Expertise in natural and or cultural resource management
- Relevant technical or trade skills (fire, weed and feral animal management, cultural mapping, GIS, plant and animal identification)
- Passion, a willingness to learn and a calm nature
- Excellent communication skills, the ability to listen and communicate clearly
- A fun and collaborative approach that attracts others
- A guiding and supporting supervisory style
- The ability to work autonomously but also be a proactive team member
- Strong administrative skills (MS Office)
- Experience both living and working remotely
Hold a Manual Drivers license and 4WD experience
Have a current First Aid Certificate and Working With Children Check (NT Ochre card) or be willing to obtain
